I am thankful for the freedoms we enjoy in this great country. I am thankful for our troops and veterans and for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
I am worried about where our country is headed. After the past eight years of general greed in Washington, Wall Street and a lot of corporations, it appears our “change” may be no change at all or a expedited road to socialism.
What we need is smaller government. We need to repeal the 17th amendment. We need to actually hold those in Washington accountable for their actions, greed and at times inactions.
It appears that possibly in the near future we will be forced to take government provided health insurance and be fined $1,000 a year at tax time if we refuse. It appears that the “go green” is the “in” thing because people believe the propaganda that is fed to them by the media and politicians and those at the disposal of both, so we may be forced to live with the government telling us what we can and cannot do. I believe in helping those that need it but when people make government assistance a lifestyle while being able-bodied to work but too lazy to do so living at the expense of the taxpayer, it needs to be stopped. It seems that Washington is in a world of its own and is out of touch with the people. I cannot figure out what happens to a politician once they reach Washington, DC. They turn into a completely different individual and seems only capable of serving themselves or the lobbyists or special interests. The President wants health care for all so the Senate appoints senators to a committee to write up a bill to vote on. Each of those senators have ties to the health care and/or pharmaceutical companies. What kind of tax payer funded health care will come out of this committee? Most likely one that is only fair to those interests and not to the taxpayer. We already have medic-aid for the poor on welfare paid for by the taxpayer, what else will it give them? What will be forced upon the rest of us that we must accept or face a fine at tax time? Welfare medicaid recipients already abuse the system calling for an ambulance to take them to the hospital for something as simple as a toothache but at a cost of over $300 for the ride to the e.r. when a taxi ride would only cost about $20 or less.
I enjoy my freedoms but it seems that since 2000, we have lost some of those freedoms, we have lost our savings due to greed of the elite and now we are going to have part of our lives dictated by our government. One can only hope that what our forefathers were trying to prevent when they framed the declaration of indepence and our constitution does not indeed come about but I have little faith that it can now be prevented. The current President is creating more government organizations with more power to oversee our lives along with the Federal Reserve bank that they will eventually control all of our finances and few of us will work to make a living for others while struggling ourselves. We were promised change but I have a bad feeling that the change most want is not the change that will take place. After the past eight years and the beginning of 2009, I am scared for the future.
Happy Independence Day America.

We have to stand up as a people and make the change in our own lives. The people is where the power lies and we are the one’s who need to effect small changes in our own lives, one citizen at a time. We must ask ourselves what we can do to make this world a better place to live. We must ask ourselves if we are being sustainable and getting away from oil. Peace is within every individual effort.
